Balsa Wood (sawn timber, small sheets, battens)
Balsa wood is the lightest commercial timber in the world - it weighs less than cork. Our balsa wood is cultivated on plantations in tropical South America. The balsa tree reaches a diameter of approximately 50cm after 6-12 years and it is then fit for felling. We import balsa wood in bundles of around 1/3 to 1/2m³. The balsa wood bundles are strapped and protected at the edges.
We have had sawn balsa from Papua New Guinea, Costa Rica and Venezuela in stock since early 2016. This is a beautiful, bright timber of the highest quality which is also very light. The bundles are classified as follows:
light (64-135 kg/m³)
normal (136-192 kg/m³)
slightly heavier (192-260 kg/m³) bundles
