Plywood Qualities

The quality indications such as AB/B for our types of plywood refer to the front and rear of the plywood.

AB Quality – Top Veneers

Rotary cut birch furniture veneers with individual characteristic features. For this top veneer only occasional light yellowish or reddish discolourations are permitted together with deviations in the grain structure, very small cracks and a limited number of black mineral streaks. Occasional healthy knots with a diameter of up to 6mm and black pin knots of approximately 2mm are permitted here. Top veneers of AB quality do in principle have a sealed surface but occasional open knots are possible. It is extremely suitable as a top veneer for high-quality decorative applications in furniture, automotive and aircraft construction with a GL 1 classification in line with the directives of Germanischer Lloyd.

B Quality – Top Veneers

Rotary cut birch furniture veneers with characteristic features. Stronger discolourations, deviations in the grain structure and healthy knots are permitted here. Several knot holes with a diameter up to 8mm, small cracks and black knots with a diameter of up to approximately 5mm and black mineral streaks are also permitted. This veneer is particularly suitable as a top veneer for decorative applications in modelling, the manufacture of furniture, musical instruments and lampshades where the key aspect is technical application.

BR Quality – Top Veneers

Rotary cut birch veneers with several characteristic features. An unlimited number of strong discolourations, healthy knots and black mineral streaks are permitted here. Black knots and grain deviations and knot holes with a diameter up to 10mm and cracks are possible. For technical applications such as for moulded parts for equestrian saddles, modelling, sports equipment where larger open areas may result in problems but more severe discolourations can be accepted.

C Quality – Top Veneers

Rotary cut birch veneers with characteristic features. An unlimited number of strong discolourations, black mineral streaks and grain deviations are possible. An unlimited number of healthy knots with a diameter up to 25mm, black knots and black mineral streaks are permitted. Knot holes with a diameter up to 25mm and larger cracks are also permitted. This top veneer is extremely suitable for technical applications where larger open areas are not problematic.

Plywood Bonding Types

Standard bonding (IF20)
Plywood with this bonding is only suitable for use indoors with normal low air humidity.

Moisture resistant bonding (IW67)
Plywood with IW67 bonding is suitable for use in rooms with increased air humidity and occasional contact with water (not weather resistant).

Tego film bonding
This bonding is resistant to water ingress.
